the writer's task is that of capturing the attention of busy but committed people, holding it, and leading them to the important points in the proposal. Make their reading easier by organizing ideas clearly. Increase the impact of what they are reading by suitable direct and simple language.

One of the most frequently punctuation in a sentence is the “PERIOD”, It has different rules that a writer has to know. Is necessary to know that the period means: “The end of a sentence and the beginning of a new one” Example: The student of the class use books to learn. The teacher is in the class from 8:00am to 5:00pm.

I have come to realize that one of the most popular mistakes in writing is that people do not use parallel structure. I’ve also learned that parallel structure is not just matching grammatical structures but ideas in a sentence can represent parallel structure as well. Matching grammatical structures would be something like, “I enjoy dancing, eating, drinking, and sleeping.” Parallel ideas or sayings would be something like, “Water is to plants as food is to the body.”

Persuasive writing is the topic that most interests me. It is a piece of writing that states the opinion of a writer; the writing influences or changes the reader’s thoughts and actions. It consists of a topic, opinion, and supporting details. It must be an arguable claim. Its outline consists of an introduction, body, and conclusion.

Commas is the topic I most need improvement on. By researching more about it I will become more familiar with it. As I was researching I learned various ways where I can use commas in the proper ways. There are many ways where you can use commas; one of the ways where you can use commas is by using it to separate a list of words or groups with a series of three or more words. For example, “I went to go eat lunch with Brittany, Estrella, and Jason.” A comma is needed to separate the list of names.

When it comes to being able to use proper English, there are many formulas and methods which are essential. Even the people with the best vocabulary may still have struggles when it comes down to writing a decent essay or even a sentence. Building up an essay is what most teenagers and people in general have the most problems with. Getting familiar with grammar and the writing process is, therefore; essential and handy. The five paragraph essay structure is what scares me the most and gives me the most trouble.

There are three main points of view in writing: first person, second person, and third person. First person point of view takes on an autobiographical tone with the usage of “I” and “me”. This point of view may offer a closer look into the emotions and thoughts of the narrator, yet it restricts the reader’s perspective to one character. The story line is seen through the eyes of one person, the reader only being exposed to the events and actions of a single being. A few good examples of literature in first person point of view include Charlotte Bronte’s Jane Eyre, Anna Sewell’s Black Beauty, and Alice Sebold’s The Lovely Bones.

The Semicolon
3/14/2010 11:24:02 am
Many people misuse the comma when writing a paper. The comma is the most difficult kind of punctuation a person can use. The semicolon is one of the easiest punctuations available, yet many people avoid it. It is easier to use, given the fact, that it does not have as many rules as the comma. First, a person can use the semicolon when separating two independent clauses which are related in subject. Furthermore, these two clauses are missing a coordinating conjuntion that the semicolon is replacing. Also the sentence relationship must be clear without the conjuction. For Example, I enjoy reading; my favorite reading subject is romance. The relation ship between the two independent clauses is reading, therefore the relationship is clear.

The topic I chose is about the structure of the active and passive voice. In the active voice, the sentence begins with a subject, verb, and an object. For example, “J.K Rowling wrote the Harry Potter.” notice that the object receives the action of the verb; in addition, it makes the reader understands clearly what is the sentence is telling. In the passive voice, the object comes first in the sentence, and the subject is place in the end making it hard for the reader to understand who is doing the action to whom. For example, “The cat was killed.”

In Mr. Cordova’s English class we learned about fragments, a fragment is an incomplete sentence. Fragments are a common mistake that people make when attempting to create a complete sentence. The following are examples of fragments; the red bus and after lunch. These are incomplete sentences because they do not have a subject or a verb. Complete sentences contain a verb and a subject which a reader can understand what the sentence is about.

A period is used to stop a sentence. Without a period the sentence will go on and on and on not knowing when it will end. Plus the next first letter must be capitalize beause its the begining of a sentence. For example: "the boy was tired of playing soccer he just wants to go home once he gets home he is going to go up to his room and fall asleep"

Punctuation is important because it helps the sentence be read easily, so the reader doesn't interpret the wrong idea. It relays the meaning of what the author wants to say so the reader can relate and feel what he or she is writing. It sets the tone giving it meaning and feeling.

I have always wondered what is an ellipsis mark? How is it used? During my research I know now that all it is stating is there have been omitted words in the sentence. When quoting a sentence it is necessary to use them. According to GrammerBook.com ellipsis marks are used when omitting a word, phrase, line, paragraph, or more from a quoted passage. There are many different methods for using ellipsis marks. The three-dot method is the simplest. The three-dot method is more appropriate for most general work. There are only two rules when using ellipsis marks. Ellipsis marks can also be used to indicate a stop or pause within a sentence and is especially used in quoted speeches.

What I learn that when you are trying to form a comparative and superlative by one syllable of adjective then just add -er for the comperative just form and then -est for superlative. If a one syllable adjectivve ends with an -e, then you will nedd to add an -r for a comperative form and -st for the supelative. These are three forms for supelative and comperative: 1.Mary's car is larger than Max's car, 2. Mary's house is the tallest of all the houses on the block, and 3. Max is wiser than his brothyer. Theres also the two syllable adjective and if this two syllable adjective that you form are the comparative with more and the superlative with the most.

Have you ever wondered when and where to place a semicolon? Even though they might look purposeless, they play a big role in helping the sentence flow properly and grammatically, helping the reader designate when to pause, and separating useless information from the sentence.

What is concision? Writing without being either redundant or choppy is one of the greatest considerations and challenges in good writing. Margaret Shertzer, in her book, Elements of Grammar, seems to reduce language largely, but not exclusively, to a principle of actor-reaction (a.k.a., verb and direct object). Put another way, “say something, then, say something about it, (though not always in that order).”

A run-on sentence, also known as a "fused sentence,” has at least two parts, either or any one of which can stand by itself as an independent clause, but the multiple parts continuing as one long whole instead of being properly connected. Sentence length is unrelated to the nature of a run-on sentence. The main point is that the sentence is too long, as opposed to a sentence being too short – also known as a sentence fragment. Run-ons are not only ungrammatical, they also interfere with the reader’s receiving the intended meaning of the writer.
